The Curtiss 'Jenny' was the most famous American airplane of the World War I. The JN-3 was modified in 1916 to improve its performance and designated as the JN-4. With America's entry into World War I on April 6, 1917, the Signal Corps began ordering a large quantities of JN-4s, more than 6000 planes had been delivered, the majority of them – JN-4D. JN-4D was generally used for primary flight training. After World War I, the hundreds of planes were sold on the civilian market. In total 2664 Curtiss JN-4D planes were built.
