During World War II I-5 was used not only for young pilot training but as night battle plane and light bomber 'searchlights hunter'...I-5 was designed by Polikarpov in 'inner prison', where, owing to false and ungrounded accusation, aviation industry specialists were kept in 1929. The plane was designed for M-22 JUPITER VI engine. State tests of the fighter were carried out in Scientific-research Institute of Air Forces from July 13 till August 13, 1931.
