The first I-15 were purchased from the USSR by Spain in October 1936, where it received the name 'Chatos', in general 116 fighters together with support team were sent to the Republic...The fighter I-15 was created in Central design office under the management of Polikarpov in 1933-34. The fighter I-15 was constructed to replace I-5, which had become obsolete by that time. From 1934 till 1936 384 fighters I-15 were built. Excellent flight and battle capabilities of I-15 were demonstrated during Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Both I-15 and I-16 were the first Soviet fighters issued on the international arena, surprising the world of aviation greatly.
