Pe-2 was originally designed as twin engine, high altitude and long range fighter. Later the requirements for design were changed and Pe-2 was modified to dive bomber. After the tests conducted in short term the aircraft was directed to mass production. In total 11070 Pe-2 were produced during WWII.
